چکیده

We have created a simulated world ("BioLand") designed to support experiments on the evolution of cooperation, competition, and communication. In this particular experiment we have simulated the evolution of herding behavior in prey animals. We placed a population of simulated prey animals into an environment with a population of their predators. The behavior of each of the animals is controlled by a neural network architecture specified by its individual genome. We have allowed these populations to evolve through interaction over time and have observed the evolution of neural networks that produce herding behavior. The prey animals evolve to congregate in herds, for the protection it provides from predators, as well as the help it provides in finding food and mates. An interesting evolutionary pathway is seen to this herding, from aggregation, to staying nearby other animals for mating opportunities, to using herding for safety and food finding.

Evolution of Herding Behavior of Multiple Autonomous Mobile Robots

Byoung-Tak Zhang Dept. of Computer Engineering Seoul National University Seoul 151-7 42, Korea [email protected] We study the evolution of herding behavior of multiple autonomous mobile robotic agents. Agents are cloned to form a homogeneous team. Cooperation strategies for a team of the robots are represented in a neural network. An evolutionary algorithm is used to evolve the neural netw...

Impacts of Economic Variables on Herding Behavior in Tehran Stock Exchange Industries

The stock market is influenced by other parallel markets and macroeconomic variables; such variables have impacts on the behavior of financial market players. Accordingly, this study first examines the existence of herding behavior among investors in the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE). It then investigates the effects of exogenous economic variables on this industry-level behavior in the Tehran St...

Impact of Herding on Buy & Hold, Momentum & Contrarian Strategy in Tehran Stock Exchange

This paper aims to study the effect of herding on buy and hold, momentum and contrarian strategy. In this research, the cross-sectional absolute deviation is used to identify herding behavior in twenty industries in Tehran stock market. It is observed that the down and boom periods had more industries with herding. Moreover, the weak herding is more common than the strong herding in this market...

Genetics and Behavior during Handling, Restraint, and Herding

The primary objective of this chapter is to discuss the effects of genetics on the behavior of herding animals during handling and restraint. Compared to rodents, poultry, and fruit flies (Drosophilia) very little behavioral genetics work has been done on livestock. During our careers we have observed thousands of animals under many different conditions. In this chapter we will discuss our obse...

Intensive Artificial Selection Jeopardizes Animals, Well-Being: A Short Review

Domestication of animals has had some important effects on physiology, morphology, behavior and well-being of domesticated animals. Conscious or goal directed selections on animals for increasing their productions has accelerated the rate of the changes, leading to some well-being defections. This paper notes some aspects of animal domestication in context of genetic science. Then explains how ...
